Dorr

Dorr is the solo project of British born French based producer/ singer/ film composer John Dorr.

The intimate deep voice is woven with guitar, often played using unusual items (sex toys/ screwdrivers/ electric razors) going beyond noise into a deeply emotive and melodic world in the grand tradition of The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth and MBV.

These central elements are embellished with electronic loops and glitchy, fizzling beats. Fusing the bombastic with the delicate. The concerts often contain visual elements (video projections/ self designed lights), framing the music and creating an immersive show with minimal means.

2024 saw his first feature film soundtrack Between The Lights (Dir. Mike Groom) earn best soundtrack at Richmond International film festival with the film itself winning several awards, including best film at Dances With Film Festival and receiving positive reviews, notably in The Guardian and Variety.

Dorr was initially self taught, becoming fascinated by music at an early age and later in life studying classical composition and harmony, leading to forming neo classic/ post rock band Stems (active from 2012 till 2019) with whom he toured Europe extensively, released several albums including a British Film Institute funded live soundtrack for the Georges Méliès 1902 silent film ‘La voyage de la lune’. Resulting in concerts with DJ Yoda, Russian Circles and festivals with Kraftwerk, Jarvis Cocker and more.
